Attorney Marisa W. Higgins is a founding partner of Higgins & Plante, P.L.L.C. She practices throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in all areas of family and probate law.
Marisa received her B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross in 1999 where she was inducted into the Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society. She received her J.D. from Villanova School of Law in 2002. While in law school, Marisa was an editor of the Villanova Environmental Law Journal, and was awarded the Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer award for excellence in trial advocacy.
Marisa handles contested divorce, child custody, modification and contempt actions. Her practice also includes representing clients in the negotiation and execution of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements and enforcement of those agreements when necessary. In addition, Marisa handles cases in the appellate courts of Massachusetts.
As part of Marisa’s practice, she regularly appears before the Probate & Family Court representing clients in petition to partition matters, equity actions, and guardianships and conservatorships. Marisa has extensive experience in divorces where special needs children are involved, including the intersection of child support and public benefits in these cases. In addition to representing private clients, Marisa serves as a mediator and conciliator for parties seeking an alternative to traditional litigation.
As part of her commitment to maintaining excellence in the law, Marisa has served as a panelist for numerous educational institutions. She is a member of the Worcester County Bar Association and has served as a co-chair of the New Membership Committee. Marisa has also accepted cases on a pro bono basis through the Volunteer Lawyers Service of the Massachusetts Justice Project and the Worcester County Bar Association. Marisa has been named a Rising Star by both Law & Politics and Boston magazine. She was a recipient of Worcester Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty Award and was named a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts.
Marisa’s husband is also an attorney, and they are the proud parents of two children. Outside of work, Marisa enjoys travel, particularly to the ocean, interior design, and reading.
